Read the configuration as a starting point
An S/P description tells you how cells are arranged electrically. The series count relates to pack voltage; parallel groups relate to capacity and current sharing. It does not fully describe the finished pack. Cell model, protection electronics, interconnects, wiring, assembly and thermal conditions still matter. When reviewing an 18650 proposal, ask the supplier to identify the cell and configuration together. Two packs with the same series and parallel count can serve very different applications if their cells and construction differ.
Connect nominal voltage to the operating window
Multiplying the cell's nominal voltage by the series count gives a nominal pack value, but the equipment sees a changing voltage during use. Compare the proposed charge endpoint and discharge endpoint with the equipment's permitted input range. Do not infer chemistry or charging limits from the 18650 format alone. It describes a physical format used for different cell designs. The approved cell and pack specifications must establish the actual limits, and the charger must be selected for that configuration.
Use capacity calculations carefully
For an illustrative pack made from identical 3Ah cells, two cells in parallel correspond to a nominal 6Ah group before pack-level qualifications. If three such groups are connected in series, the Ah figure remains nominally 6Ah while voltage increases. This arithmetic helps interpret a proposal; it is not a design instruction or a tested pack rating. The finished pack's guaranteed capacity depends on the specified conditions and cutoff behavior. Ask for the minimum rated result under an agreed test method.
Do not calculate current capability from capacity
A larger Ah rating does not automatically mean a pack can deliver a higher peak current safely. Check the selected cell's approved operating limits and the rating of the entire current path. The protection circuit, interconnects, terminals and temperature rise can constrain the finished pack. Describe startup peaks with their duration and repetition, and include the installed cooling conditions. Pack design and assembly should be handled by qualified manufacturers; loose-cell arithmetic is not a substitute for an engineered, validated product.
Confirm the physical and production details
The same electrical arrangement can be packaged in several geometries. Send a drawing that includes connector clearance, cable routing, mounting and nearby heat sources. Ask for sample dimensions rather than estimating the finished enclosure from cell count. During procurement, preserve the cell model, pack drawing, protection settings and document revisions as one approved baseline. Jetray has an 18650 battery pack category; the relevant RFQ should confirm which listed model or custom configuration can meet the complete equipment requirement. Keep the voltage convention explicit because some product descriptions use rounded system names rather than the precise nominal pack value.
